JUST IN: Anambra guber: Tony Nwoye Releases A 9 Point Manifesto

In a statement signed by Dr Tony Nwoye, the All Progressives Congress flag bearer for the November 18th gubernatorial election has released a NINE (9) point manifesto, stating what he will do if elected the Governor of Anambra state. He equally highlighted his vision and mission for Anambrarians.

VISION:

To re-establish Anambra State to its enviable height

MISSION

To build an enduring and prosperous future for Ndi Anambra, predicated on harnessing the vibrancy, the experience of our elders and the unifying grace of our women.

1. AGRICULTURE & FOOD SECURITY

• Create enabling environment for both local and foreign investors in Agric sector.

• Facilitate loans to rural farmers through cooperative societies.

• Establish Special Youth Agricultural Scheme to encourage young people towards taking up farming as a viable means of self-actualisation (turning COMRADES to FARMRADES not only COMRADES).

• Develop the capacity of rural farmers through periodic trainings, as well as provide seedlings and farm inputs.

• Provide incentives for farmers and investors for processing of agricultural produce.

• Establish veterinary clinics within the agricultural zones of the state.

2. EDUCATION

• Subsidize the cost of education in state-owned tertiary institutions.

• Free education for public schools (primary and secondary).

• Free Senior Secondary Certificate Examination fees for students in public schools.

• Ensure a greater portion of expenditure on university education is devoted to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) with more spaces allocated to Science And Technology oriented courses with scholarships for exceptional students

• Initiate private sector participation in school infrastructure to a public school of choice with a tax incentive for private participants.

• Develop a teacher expert volunteer corps for periodic teaching and mentoring programmes for secondary schools within the state with certificate of appreciation from the government as incentive

3. HEALTHCARE

• Revitalizing the Primary Healthcare Services and make it the bedrock of our health policies across the state, starting from the Ward and L.G.A Levels.

Subsidize the cost of primary health care in the state
o Free primary health care for senior citizens from 80 years
o Free primary health care for children below five years to reduce infant mortality

• Reorganise the State Secondary Healthcare with emphasis on equipping and restructuring our General Hospitals to make them more responsive to contemporary challenges.

• Invest in Tertiary Healthcare delivery by targeted funding to state health institutions.

• Employ medical personnel in state health institutions.

4. SECURITY

• Enhance cooperation with all the security agencies in the state with a view to achieving substantial reduction in crimes

• Improve model of neighbourhood policing by embarking on trainings and prompt provision of logistics

• Rejig and equip the State Vigilante Services for optimal performance.

5. INDUSTRY

• Develop small scale industrial clusters in different parts of the state by creating SMEs industrial and business parks

• Reposition Nnewi as the foremost efficient, functional, liveable, inclusive and sustainable industrial and commercial centre in Anambra State

• Develop Onitsha as commercial nerve center of Nigeria and West Africa.

• Revisit Akwa Master Plan with the hope of making it a befitting state capital.

• Build mini grids for power generation geared towards the state’s self-sustainability in Power.

6. YOUTHS, SPORTS AND JOB CREATION

• Provide opportunities for skill acquisition and capacity building through local and international trainings

• Facilitate grants to enable our youths to own their businesses/Soft loans(Interest free) to young business people through the various duly registered and recognised Market Associations

• To promote comprehensive youth sports activities across the state in order to widen career opportunities and positively channel their energies away from vice.

• Encourage youth participation in leadership.

7. ENVIRONMENT

• Gross improvement of the environmental status of the state by prompt and efficient solid waste evacuation and management.

• Improve the lives of all the people living in slums and those living in suburban slums by providing necessary basic amenities

• Reduce flooding by establishing drainage systems in urban centres to drastically check erosion.

• Proper Management of Hospital and other hazardous waste by installing hospital/ hazardous waste treatment plant in the state.

• Partner with World bank to set up mini Fecal waste management plant for the cities.

8. OIL AND GAS

• Actualise the dream of making Anambra State an Oil producing, having sponsored a bill to that effect, which is presently at its final stage at the National Assembly.

9. HOUSING

• Create Low Housing Scheme For Civil Servants and Middle Class in the State

(C) COVENANT

By God’s grace, I will selflessly serve the people of Anambra State to the very best of my ability with particular focus on Poverty Eradication.

I want to be judged by the improved level of security of life and property; the number of youths trained and empowered both locally and internationally; the level of additional infrastructural development; the extent and quality of accessible healthcare in the state, especially in the rural communities.

I want to be assessed by the degree of improvement in the volume/scope of trade and industrialisation, the environmental status of the State, the seamless and inclusive leadership.
Let my stewardship be evaluated based on the general welfare of civil servants, traders and all citizens, and the overall remarkable improvement in every other sector if given the privilege to serve.

This is my Covenant with the good people of Anambra state. God willing, it shall come to pass.
