Anelka, 37, who was known for his superb display while playing active football in the Premier League has now joined struggling Eredivisie side Roda JC Kerkrade after being brought in by the club's new co-owner AlekseiKorotaev.
The club's technical director Ton Caanen confirmed on Wednesday, January 1, 2017 that the French man has joined the club.
“When I met Nicolas in Dubai and I had conversations with him about football.
“I immediately had the idea that I not only had to deal with a former football player, but also someone who has a very interesting ideaabout football in general.
“We are proud that we can add someone of his caliber to our organisation. We will now discuss with Aleksei Korotaev how we are going to give precise details on his role,''Caanen explained.
Anelka began his playing career at Paris Saint-Germain in 1995 before going on to playin England, Spain, Turkey, China, Italy and India.
