Government, rumored to have paid £2 million for the release of 82 Chibok

A recent report by the BBC has revealed that the Federal Government of Nigeria, parted with the huge sum of £2 million to secure the release of the 82 Chibok girls who just regained
their freedom last week. This was in addition to the five boko haram commanders who were also released in exchange for the girls.

The BBC noted that the release of the 82 girls came at a very steep price. The details of the deal are sketchy and unconfirmed, but information reaching luckynewsinfo.com, has it that 5 senior boko haram members who are believed to be top notch, high level bomb makers were moved from a high security unit to be driven to freedom, alongside £2 million in cash.

Paying the ransom and swapping the commanders cum bomb makers for the girls should have sealed the deal for the release and it should have happened sooner but for some hesitation on the part of President Muhammadu Buhari who was not comfortable with paying the ransom and releasing the prisoners. A source claims that persuading the president to pay the ransom and release the prisoners in exchange for the girls was very difficult but in the end, common sense prevailed. The deal has not been confirmed yet as Governments rarely admit to making such negotiations, but the girls have since returned and have been reunited with their family and friends.
